Just Starting Out (Puppy, Beginners, Canine Good Citizen)
Beginner Obedience 12:00 PM

The course begins to train you to train your dog. Basic obedience skills are introduced. Topics include correct equipment, commands/praise/release, proper footwork, how dogs communicate/learn, sit/stay, walking on a leash.
Requirements: Dog must be at least 4 months of age or older and not agressive.

Equipment:
- All collars are acceptable, except no e-collars. Your instructor recommends a Flat or buckle collar
-6 foot leash
-mat or bath rug for your dog to lay down.
*NO retractable leash.
Handler equipment:
-A treat bag or pockets to put your dog’s food in
-Plenty of food for you dog. It can be their daily food allowance and/or treats. The more variety the better!
(NO treats that are oily, flaky, or crumbly)
*TIP: have the food ready cut into pinky nail size bites.
-Water bowl
-Water for you and your dog
-Comfy shoes and clothing

Puppy 12:00 PM

Your puppy is learning from the moment her little paws hit the ground. This class will give you the information you need to prepare and know in advance, the most important aspects of your puppy's first 8-16 weeks in your home. This information will help you have the most fun with the least amount of stress on your new journey. Content will include the following: the 5 important things to get accomplished with your puppy before they are 16 weeks old.
Bite Inhibition – resource guarding prevention
Socialization - People, Places and Things.
Potty Training Problems
Separation Anxiety Prevention
Body Handling, grooming and veterinary handling
Training games will cover:
Relax on a mat
Leave the treat to get the treat
Touch
Watch Me
Recall training games -how to train your puppy to come back to you
Name Game
Drop It or Give
Walking on a leash
Sit, Down, Stand, Stay
PLEASE NOTE: Your puppy must be under 16 weeks at the beginning of class. If your puppy is older, beginners obedience is the appropriate class for which you should register. See links below.
Requirements: Your puppy must be current on all vaccinations to attend class. Please follow the recommendations of your vet regarding vaccinations. Please bring proof of vaccination to the class on the first night. Rabies vaccinations are not required for dogs under 6 months of age.

Beginner Obedience 2:00 PM

No retractable leashes.
4-6' slip leads, - All collars are acceptable, except no e-collars. Your instructor's preference for allowable are choke collar, humane choke collar (martingale collar), buckle collars. Pinches if they are already using one.
Come to class with your dog hungry. Soft treats (hot dogs sliced to size of a nickel, whole pieces of string cheese, or any other soft treat your dog LOVES).

This class is for students who wish to prepare their dog for the CGC required behaviors as well as for students who just want to advance their dog's obedience skills to a higher level, e.g., longer stays, duration attention, focused heeling, ignoring distractions, emergency stop and rock solid recall. Food rewards are used; however, students will learn how to wean off food rewards through the use of engagement and play.
Requirements: Completion of Beginner class or equivalent skill level.
