Scentwork

ScentWork Level 2 - Beginner II - 4:00 PM

$140

with Laura Cribbins

Calendar Current session started Feb 20, 2024 at 4 pm, runs for 7 weeks

Scent Work is a fun sport based on work done by real-world detection dogs. Instead of locating drugs or explosives, Scent Work uses four essential oils – birch, anise, clove, and cypress – to find different target scents that can be hidden anywhere. The role of the handler is not to direct, but to assist, the dog. The dog learns how to tell the handler that scent has been found, even if there are distractions such as toys and food. This is a wonderful way to build confidence, is great for stimulating your dog’s mind, and is enjoyed by all dogs whether young or old.

This class is for teams that are familiar with the basic foundations of searching for a “high value” treat.  Dogs will be introduced to the odors (essential oils) and practice beginning searches in this class.

See the description of all scentwork classes and the order of progression: Scentwork_classes_descriptions_and_progession

Equipment:

  • Crate
  • Lots of “high-value” treats
  • Flat buckle, collar, or harness
  • 6 foot leash, easy to take on and off

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

  1. Cancellation of a class for any reason BEFORE the first class date of a session will be refunded minus our coursestorm and credit card fees (currently about $13)
