This class is designed for dog owners who are looking to improve their obedience skills or want to prepare for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) required behaviors. Key training areas include longer stays, duration attention, focused heeling, ignoring distractions, emergency stop, and rock-solid recall. Food rewards are used initially, but students will also learn how to transition away from food rewards by incorporating engagement and play into training.  Ask your instructor for more information about testing for the AKC CGC certificate.

Classes should be repeated to become proficient in all skills before advancing to the next level class.

Price:  $100 + 2.50 registration fee for 5 week session, classes are held on Tuesdays. 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Beginner Obedience class or equivalent skill level.

What to bring to class: Flat collar, martingale, or slip collar, 6 foot leash, high value treats, treat pouch, water, mat/rug and a positive attitude!  No e-collars or retractable leashes.

Cancellation & Refunds: If you need to cancel anytime before the day of the first class of a session, we’re happy to offer a refund minus fees (currently about $13 to cover registration fees and credit card processing).No refunds can be given for cancellations made on or after the first class of a session. We’re also unable to offer refunds, credits, or prorated fees for missed classes once the session has started. I'm only signing up the one handler who’ll be working with the dog in class. If there are additional registrations with the same dog, those registrations will be canceled and refunded, minus fees. Need to switch to a class that’s a better fit for your skill level? This class focuses on teamwork and communication, helping you and your dog enjoy walks together and build a reliable recall that works anywhere.

What will be taught:

• Loose leash walking using a longer leash for better movement and communication
• Heel walking for focused, close-up control when you need it
• Capturing attention so your dog chooses to check in with you
• Wait from out front to build patience and responsiveness
• Working with leash pressure to create clarity and confidence instead of pulling
• Recall games that make coming when called fun and rewarding
• Generalization – teaching your dog to respond in new places and situations
• Working with distractions so your dog stays engaged even when the world is exciting
• Using environmental reinforcers – learning how real-life rewards (like sniffing or greeting) can strengthen good behaviour

Prerequisite: Attendance in Beginner Obedience class or equivalent skill level.  Not for dog/human reactive dogs.
