Live In-Person Training Classes

6:00 - ScentWork

$95

with John Strassner Madeline Becker

Calendar Next session starts Sep 28, 2021 at 6 pm, runs for 5 weeks

Scent Work is a fun sport based on work done by real-world detection dogs. Instead of locating drugs or explosives, Scent Work uses four essential oils – birch, anise, clove, and cypress – to find different target scents that can be hidden anywhere. The role of the handler is not to direct, but to assist, the dog. The dog learns how to tell the handler that scent has been found, even if there are distractions such as toys and food. This is a wonderful way to build confidence, is great for stimulating your dog’s mind, and is enjoyed by all dogs whether young or old.

Please bring to class a crate for your dog and lots of “high-value” treats, as well as a flat buckle, collar, or harness. Leashes should be easy to take on and off, and at least 6 feet in length.

PLEASE NOTE: For everyone's safety, we will be practicing social distancing and following any guidelines for Covid safety from Santa Clara County or the CDC. Please plan to cooperate with any required guidelines.

Note: Unlike our normal 7 weeks sessions, this is a special 5 week session.

Conformation Drop in is an opportunity for handlers and their dogs to have a simulated ring experience. It is expected that you and your dog already know the basics of Conformation. The first and most important thing to bring to class is you - happy, enthusiastic, ready for fun. And then: dog, training collar (slip collar), 4 to 6 foot leather leash, soft treat (bait), DOG TOY (preferably on a rope/ string). Don't feed the dog within three hours of training. As time goes on, the collar, leash, and feeding time may change. The training classes should be fun for you and your dog - showing will be easy after that.
